Recent Changes to Radiation Assessment Reports and Certificates – Victoria

Did you know????  The Radiation Safety Department will now allow Approved Testers to issue a compliance certificate for new equipment, when the source reference number is not available. Testers can do this by using the “Authorisation Number”, listed in the left column of the Schedule 2, in conjunction with the Manufacturer, Model name or number and x-ray tube serial number. Management licence holders will need to supply this information to Approved Testers prior to the completion of the radiation assessment report.

It is therefore advisable for management licence holders to apply to vary the management licence as soon as possible, if you intend to change the scope of your practice, such as the number or types of radiation sources involved. The application must be approved by the Department, and therefore an Authorisation Number issued, before the proposed changes occur. Also, a shielding report and evidence of shielding may be required, whether it is a new or existing room.

It is an offence against the Radiation Act for a management licence holder to take possession of a new radiation source before that activity has been authorised in their licence.
