Radiation Safety in the use of Portable Moisture Density Gauges (PDMG)

Are you responsible for the use, transportation, and storage of portable moisture/density gauges?

It is a requirement that the use of Portable Density/Moisture Gauges is performed only by competent and licensed persons. This course is a requirement as part of your license application, and is aligned with the ARPANSA Code of Practice for Portable Density/Moisture Gauges Containing Radioactive Sources (2004).

The course includes basic radiation safety training in the following:

  • The Scientific Background
  • Units of Measurement
  • Biological Effects
  • Radiation Protection Philosophy and Standards
  • Applying the ALARA Principle
  • Background Radiation
  • Practical Issues of External Radiation Control
  • Safe storage and transport

There is a 40-minute open-book assessment at conclusion of course, and a course notebook is provided, and your Certificate of Completion is emailed to you.

Please note – this training is for applicants for the:

  • NSW EPA Use Licence – S30
  • Vic DofH Use Licence IND 2-1 (Portable Nuclear Moisture/Density Gauges – operator)

Cost: $600+GST per person – includes all materials and catering

Radiation Safety for X-Ray Installation & Servicing

For equipment installation and service staff, the course includes basic radiation safety and the following key learning areas:

  • The Scientific Background
  • Biological Effects
  • Units of Measurement
  • Radiation Protection Philosophy and Standards
  • Applying the ALARA Principle
  • Background Radiation
  • Practical Issues of External Radiation Control
  • Physics of X-ray Tubes
  • Uses of X-ray Equipment
  • X-ray Shielding
  • General X-ray Safety
  • X-ray Test and Survey Technique
  • Legislation

There is a 1.5hr open-book assessment at conclusion of course, and a Certificate of Completion is emailed to you.

Please note this program relates to:

  • NSW EPA Use Licence – IA10
  • Vic DofH Use Licence – IND 4-1 (Diagnostic X-ray) 
  • Vic DofH Use Licence – IND 4-7 (Cabinet X-ray)

Cost: $880+GST per person – includes all materials and catering.
