Radiation safety information and advice
Since 1998 RadTest Australia has been providing radiation safety information and advice to the medical imaging profession and health practitioners, including regulatory legislative compliance inspections, commissioning and accepting testing, RANZCR mammography (MQAP) accreditation testing, regulatory compliance testing, radiation shielding design and compliance inspection and post damage as well as post preventative maintenance service inspections.
Australia wide radiation compliance testing
Prior to 2015 RadTest Australia’s service area was confined to Victoria but since 2015 RadTest Australia can now carry out regulatory radiation safety inspections and radiation shielding design in most Australian states.
RadTest Australia staff are either licensed or accredited in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia as well as ACPSEM mammography accredited, conduct all inspections within the regulatory or accreditation protocol standards for the applicable state and provide all the necessary documentation. RadTest Australia create a full inspection report on completion which is sent to both the client and the statutory authority.
Radiation shielding design service
RadTest Australia work with architects builders and project managers to provide an ideal radiation shielding design service and calculate the radiation shielding requirements for medical x-ray installations. This can save a client time and effort in calculating safety margins and requirements with the full knowledge they are dealing with an experienced and professional company fully conversant with the individual state safety compliance regulations.
X-ray equipment compliance regulations
Each state has its own individual compliance regulations whether it be for plain film radiographic X-ray equipment, Fluoroscopic X-ray equipment, Computed Tomography scanners, or Mammography X-ray equipment. The period between compliance testing can also vary between states and RadTest Australia approved inspectors have the necessary qualifications and experience to assess whether a radiation source complies with the relevant radiation safety standards, can provide radiation compliance testing in any Australian state and provide all the necessary certification.
RadTest Australia also provide training courses for the industry and the next course is due in July, titled:
Safe use of Nuclear Moisture/Density Gauges
Nuclear moisture gauges utilize radioactive sources for the determination of the moisture content of soils or the density of compacted soils, and are widely used in the engineering, construction and agricultural industries. Though the radioactivity of the sources is sufficiently low to present a negligible and acceptable risk to the operators, the gauges are classified as potentially hazardous devices and may only be used, repaired or adjusted by trained and authorized persons. RadTest Australia provides a radiation safety training course and certification for persons applying for an operators licence.
There are guidelines to specify the working practices, procedures and safety rules to be followed when handling nuclear moisture gauges. All handling, operation, maintenance and repairs must be carried out in accordance with these procedures and on this course you will learn all there is to know about this important safety issue.
