Radiation equipment – new registrations and compliance

RadTest Australia seems to have been well and truly involved over the last few months with  the numerous medical imaging equipment upgrades and new installations with both regulatory compliance testing and radiation shielding design and confirmation being required in many states.  Our staff have travelled the length of the country from the Northern Territory to Tasmania and apart from the compliance testing and certification have also been actively involved in regulatory consultancy advising clients on the steps to follow in registering new or upgraded imaging systems.  It is important to remember that in many states the management licensee is or may be required to seek approval from the applicable regulatory authority prior to purchasing an X-ray unit as the location in which the new system is to be installed may require radiation shielding installed or at least verified as being adequate to meet protection requirements.  It is advisable to contact our office early in the planning phase as this will avoid delays in registering the X-ray unit and ensure a smooth transition from the old to the new or the gala opening of that brand new department.
